La racine | The Root is a contemporary figurative artwork by Montréal artist Nathalie Nicole BOUTIN, from the Jardins intérieurs | Inner Landscapes collection. Created in mixed media on linen canvas, it explores grounding, transformation, and what takes shape within our inner landscapes.
What anchors us.
The figure seems to emerge from the material, between presence and dissolution. Transfers of pastel, water, and acrylic build upon the linen, which remains visible in places, creating a dialogue between what takes shape and what remains open.
Like an invisible root, this sense of grounding is never fully revealed. It is felt through the traces, tensions, and silences within the work.
The Root opens Inner Landscapes as a point of origin: what anchors us before movement begins.
