Presences — Inhabiting the Silence is a contemporary figurative art collection by Canadian artist Nathalie Nicole BOUTIN (boutin). Created with soft pastel and water on Arches paper, these original artworks explore the human figure, memory, silence, and the invisible traces we carry within us.

Là où le visible s’efface, quelque chose demeure.

Dans un monde où tout demande à être vu, Présences explore ce qui existe au-delà de l’apparence : les silences, les traces et les émotions que l’on porte sans toujours les révéler.

À travers des corps fragmentés, des regards détournés et des formes qui semblent émerger puis s’effacer dans la matière, cette collection s’attarde aux instants où l’être se retire du monde extérieur pour revenir vers lui-même.

La matière joue un rôle essentiel dans cette recherche. De fines textures fibreuses et des glacis projetés viennent habiter la surface avec retenue. Ton sur ton, en dialogue avec la couleur naturelle du papier Arches, ils créent des mouvements presque imperceptibles — comme des traces laissées par le temps, la mémoire ou le passage d’une présence.

Chaque œuvre devient un espace suspendu entre présence et absence, force et vulnérabilité, mémoire et transformation.

Les zones inachevées ne sont pas des vides, mais des respirations — des espaces laissés ouverts où chacun peut déposer sa propre histoire.

Présences parle de ce qui demeure lorsque le bruit disparaît : une émotion, une empreinte, une lumière intérieure.

In a world where everything demands to be seen, Presences explores what exists beyond appearances — the silences, the traces, and the emotions we carry without always revealing them.

Through fragmented bodies, turned-away gazes, and forms that seem to emerge and slowly fade into the material, this collection lingers on those quiet moments when one withdraws from the outside world to reconnect with what lies within.

The material itself becomes an essential part of this exploration. Delicate fibrous textures and subtle layers of projected glazes inhabit the surface with restraint. Tone on tone, echoing the natural color of Arches paper, they create quiet movements and depth — like traces left behind by time, memory, or the passage of a presence.

Each work becomes a suspended space between presence and absence, strength and vulnerability, memory and transformation.

The unfinished areas are not empty spaces, but places to breathe — openings where each viewer can enter and leave a part of their own story.

Presences speaks of what remains when the noise fades away: an emotion, an imprint, an inner light.
